One theory is that the area was to be a starting place for gnomes rather than having them start at. It has all the workings of a starting area such as gnomes littering the landscape and areas of a couple of houses where the first quest givers could be.

Buildings set into the mountainside exist but have no functional gates or doorways. One structure leads to a tunnel that appears to go straight into Ironforge, but has been impassibly gated. I went to video advanced, unchecked the gamma box and put the slider all the way up with no change, in fullscreen mode. I'm guessing my nvidia vid card has taken control? I'm using a lenovo Y50 4k display. I tried installing geforce experience to see if it would give gamma control back to wow without luck. I'm sure it's a pretty easy fix, but I cannot find how to force nvidia to give control back to wow.

System Advanced uncheck User Desktop Gamma exit game for the setting to stick log back in, adjust slider to new gamma Best method to check that the change sticks is to open WoWWTFconfig.wtf with notepad and check the value for 'SET Gamma '0.800000' You can also hard enter a value, and save it while logged out. There use to be a value for DesktopGamma, but they removed it, and likely that's why you now need to exit for the value to stick and be able to change the slider Here is the BIGGEST fix, roll back to DX9 DX11 is just dark. On my Lenovo Y50 with 4K display dungeons are very dark, even with gamma at 80%. Sure it will be old wow and more cartoonish looking, but much brighter.
