Former Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall has described the inspiration behind his new solo album of American soul covers.Famous for songs such as Stars and If You don't Know Me By Now, Simply Red sold more than 50 million albums over their 25 year career. Hucknall achieved international fame in the 1980s as the lead singer and songwriter of the soul-influenced pop band Simply Red, with whom he enjoyed a 25-year career and sold over 50 million albums. I got into Simply Red at the time of 'Stars' which for a long time, has been my only album of theirs. But I listened to several others in stores when they came out and have since added 'Life' to my collection as well.

But today, I feel it's been the arrangement choices of the producer Stewart Levine and the band members why I got to like Simply Red's music in the 1st place. By the time Mick Hucknall had largely replaced the band with the help of producer Andy Wright, he lost me.However, I was surprised by how good his previous solo album 'Tribute To Bobby' turned out to be. I'm not the covers type though, and would have hoped he'd go for an album of original tunes next.
