For example more realistic land and sea combat, better Ai and various other tweaks and fixes. Link 'Napoleon is pretty good too but i find Empire's campaign just epic. EmpirePros: Giant campaign map, more factions. (Spain, France, Great Britain, Sweden, Ottoman Empire, United States of America, Austria, Russia, Maratha Confederacy, Holland, Poland-Lithuania)Cons: Generally a poorly writen game, after playing Napoleon with the same PC, it's like night and day performance wise, generally meh historical setting, not much going on at the time.Pretty bad AI.NapoleonPros: Simply the pinacle of the Strategy genre, a masterpiece, very well written and designed game, very interesting historical setting (Napoleonic wars), its just a blast playing as the Coalition against Napoleon or Napoleon against the Coalition.

The AI has been significantly improved over Empire, better graphics.Cons: Smaller campaign map, less playable factions (France, Great Britain, Prussia, Austria and Russia)Both masterpieces of the Strategy genre but if you never played a Total War game I recommend Napoleon, and then maybe later buy Empire. Empire is hit or miss depending on whether you can run it. From what I have heard, Empire+Darthmod Ultimate CommanderNapoleon. But in vanilla and unmodded, Napoleon is probably much more enjoyable.I have yet to play Napoleon, but I really like Empire due to the mods(ones that let you play as any faction, darthmod, etc), the scale, and the grandeur of the grand campaign. I just wish naval combat wasn't so broken.

Nap is newer, so of course it's going to be able to be better. If you want to rule a Empire/nation, E:TW is your best bet.

Personally,I would get whichever is cheaper.shakmaster13theres like 30 countries you can play as in napoleon but you need a mod for that. Well I have both games I put a good 25 hours into Empire and now that I have Napoleon I have no interest in it anymore whilst the Napoleon map is smaller the multilayer options are so fun its hard to get bored.

On top of that whilst the map is smaller its much much more detailed and the countries all work in a more realistic way. Napoleon is just more fun. The Ai is so much better in battles and the campaign map. It will constantly surprise you, like when it will launch an attack from sea etc. Napoleon is good for what it does but for a grand campaign you need Empire with DarthMod.
